Actually ..relative to your weight 24 hours previously or even 1 hour before sleeping ..you can ..if not organisms wouldn't grow ..and most of organic growth ( and therefore weight / or height gain ) takes place at night ..while sleeping ..( applies to non nocturnal animals ) ...before anyone corrects me there ..

And as an adult you wake up each morning taller than you are when you go to sleep ..;-)

My grandmother used to use that "grow while you sleep" trick to get me to go to bed, years ago. I've never read anything reliable saying that people grow more when asleep than awake. Even with teens, overnight growth would be a hundredth of an inch or less. Certainly have seen *claims* that people are bit shorter as the day goes on and the spine compresses.

As for weight, overnight most of us probably lose a pound or more from moisture evaporation and potty trips. When I diet and keep records, I'm often several pounds lighter in the morning than after dinner and a late night snack.
