Can you help me determine what this RAM is?

For my Sony Viao laptop

Here's what is printed on the one in there:-

ELPIDA
512mb 2Rx16 PC2-4200S-444

I guess that's 4200 RAM, but not sure if the 444 is speed or something else?

Is it DDR2?

I really need to take this machine up to 1gig - getting too slow for me - too much use of Photoshop!

The model number is : PCG-7G1m

But I can't find it anywhere on the Sony website.

Maybe I'm just going mad?

Thanks for all the stickies btw, but I have some cash in PayPal that needs spending, so I really just wanted to find out what this RAM is so that I can run a search on eBay for it.....

Why not use the part number decoder [elpida.com]? You're giving the memory configuration, not a part number.

My guess is the 444 is the speed...

Download CPUZ and it will tell you what each stick of ram is in your computer...

It looks thought like you have DDR2.

PC-3200 is DDR400 (though for some reason there is DDR2 that runs at 3200). Besides that anything greater then 3200 is typically DDR2 (except for DDR1 gamer memory).
