Adsense contextual matching

When Google's Adsense started appearing on news websites, there were stories about unfortunate ads appearing. I remember one story about an ad for luggage going with a story about a body found cutup in a suitcase.

Don't hear about that anymore. But, today on the New York Times on a sad story about people coming out of prison trying to stay out, was this ad at the bottom:

I don't know, but I'm beginning to suspect eBay gets a lot of links from G without actually buying the keyword. What do you think?

I found a similar one on a story about dead pets... seems that ebay had a wide selection of those too..
