The iconic 11th Century document, which has been rebound, copied, facsimiled and even hidden in prisons, has been made available online.

It is the oldest public record at the [national] archives and was voted the nation's finest treasure in 2005. All of its pages are now available to be viewed, along with a translation from the original Latin, to anyone with an internet connection.

I was going to school just outside Winchester in 1986 and went to the the big museum they set up to celebrate the anniversary. It was fascinating how they brought back to life the way people lived at the time of the census.

It is a good thing we have put all the warring and invading countries for their resources behind us; we have progressed so far in 900 years.
