I've got a spare server (actually 2), lots of rackspace, and a decent amount of bandwidth. The servers are leased so it's not worth selling them or sending them back.

Any great ideas on what I could do with a spare server or two to maybe generate a bit of cash each month, without generating a lot of work? It'll basically cost me nothing to put them into production on the web.

It won't generate any cash, but you could offer up the servers as mirrors for an open source project that you support. You could mirror FreeBSD [freebsd.org] for example, or your preferred Linux distro or programs. :)

Hi,

Or provide some other easy-but-useful services like:

* Public NTP time server.

* Public random number source (eg like random.org).

* Mirror one of my public-service servers. B^>

I smell a niche vertical search engine.

Offer it to a non-profit which has a PR8 homepage in return for a link :)
