[techrepublic.com.com...]

This must go down as the funniest / ironic info this year so far...

And they're right, I just opened a wav along that path and there it is!

This whole nagware issue has me so p'ed off I can hardly see. I BOUGHT a valid version of Win XP with my IBM. The only restore I get is a piece of crap CD that installs a CORRUPTED registry. IBM is no help. I had to do a build of my own without Symantec crud just to get it to work.

Now, using the ORIGINAL KEY sold to me by IBM, I get the piracy nagware on every update. And I haven't pirated JACK! MS says to go to IBM, IBM shrugs and says to do a system restore (yeah right, and render my perfectly running comp WORTHLESS) so what does someone do? Fork over the $150 for a key or hack this crap up and shut off automatic updates?

You can gather by my reaction what I'm doing until I can compile a 100% Linux system that provides all the software I need. This is the biggest mistake Microslop ever made, and stops NOTHING, except making the those of us that always **intended** to drop this OS really motivated to do so once and for all.

Is it saying you have a pirated version, or is it just installing the Genuine Advantage thing each time you update? I bet the latter, and it does that for everyone every couple of weeks.

Yes and yes, and it's not every couple weeks, it's every few days. It's easy enough to remove, but down comes a new update and there it is again. The real butt-burner is I KNOW I paid for a valid license. :-(

Hehe - that's fantastic.

I bet there's one musician currently queuing at his local music store to buy a legitimate copy of Soundforge ;)
