Funny, you UK guys cannot get over losing to Portugal twice in the semi-finals of a real competition, can you?
PLEEEEASE! Not UK! ENGLAND.
We Scot's, Welsh and Irish do not like to be called English. We have our own identities. It's a bit like calling a Portuguese Spanish or a Canadian a Yank.
Why is it that I am constantly reminded of the fact that English football fans are easily the most unpopular in Europe?
You see ... Nybo knows the difference :)
It does flow but it stops for a free kick or a penalty and replays could be organised while the players are still protesting to the ref.
Those are few and far between. What if the dive takes place and the opposing side gets a good rush happening. Impede game progress because some #*$! is pouting 50 yards back? Also, incase some of you forget, there are plenty of arguments whenever a card is issued. If you throw out a player due to diving, be prepared to watch a circus as both teams scramble around the ref and debate/ also get the boot.

Or an Australian a Kiwi! XD
PS - I don't know if everyone was sleeping when Italy played Germany but the German team definetely dominated and there were Italians diving left right and center. Go France (The lesser of two evils)
In other sports (such as the finals at Wimbledon, coinciding with the 2 closing World Cup matches) you can witness true sportsmanship - real respect between the contestants, and handshakes afterwards. None of that last night in Berlin.
Reading press comment about Zidane's sending off, it's clear that tactical verbal and physical abuse between opposing players (Zidane apparently had his nipple pinched in the run-up to his head butt, and may well have been goaded by insults throughout the match) has become commonplace in the international game. Interestingly, it also seems the referee's red card decision was "illegal" because it was based on hearsay video evidence.
"[The fourth official] has also been authorised to immediately inform the match official when violent conduct occurs out of the view of the referee and assistant referees."
FIFA.com [fifa.com]
Seems pretty clear cut to me!
I have never seen such a well delivered head butt to the chest. Not something football needs.
On this, and all the other evidence/decisions of the competition, I will find it hard to see how FIFA will not introduce a form of tele-reffing into the next competition.
It's been a great festival of football marred by a number of terrible decisions and incidents - Rooney, Ronaldo, Maniche, Zidane, Figo, Rossi.. all of them should be ashamed.
According to the BBC website:(1) "Fifa said although the fifth official does have a TV monitor, he is not permitted to intervene and the fourth official has no access to video replays."
(2) "Elizondo was advised by his fourth official but France coach Raymond Domenech alleged he had only acted after seeing a video replay."
Both coaches seem to be saying the video evidence was used. Video evidence seen by the fourth official, or anything based on the video, would make the sending off illegal.

Whilst it was right to send him off, the fact that this might have been an "illegal" decision actually points the way forward for FIFA.
