Sorry to hear that.

My ATM now gives you the card right back It makes it easier. Push the card in, the card comes right back out. Enter the PIN and complete your transaction.

It makes it less confusing - although most times people forget to take their cards, not the money.

Silver Lining - I can think of three:

1 - You've got a good story to tell.
2 - At least it wasn't 200...
3 - You only do things like that once in life.

Doesn't it just rot your socks when you do stupid things like that? I have a very bad habit of going to a store, buying stuff ... and then leaving it there. I often leave without my change as well!

You have no idea how often I do this sort of thing. I must be a complete dimwit! Sorry to hear I am not alone :(

While a student my employer gave me several bags of uncut stones, Sapphires and Emeralds mainly, to sell to their main buyer in London.

However, I went to a party at Newnham College that night and lost my jacket, which had the gear in.

Took me 3 days to find the coat, which was where Id left it on the floor in one of the kitchens. Thankfully the contents were still in the pocket.

Once, while drunk, I wasn't quick enough to take the money from a Lloyds bank machine and the machine took it back. My account was not debited. I expect that all cash machines operate in this way. So, depending upon if there was someone behind you, how quick/honest they were or weren't, you might be ok - check your statement!

I second rich_b - if there was noone behind you the money went back in - sweet ain't it?

In any case contact your bank to make sure.

oh and next time give me a call before going to the cash machine;)

If money is found, by law, it must be handed to the police, so check in at the station and report it - if they have it you will be given it straight away.

If it's not with the police, i.e. someone took the money, it's theft so if your account is debited contact the police. The bank will have CCTV images. If the person is known to the police or the bank staff then it will be a simple process. Not only that but you will teach someone a lesson in the value of honesty!
