So who is going to win? Any thoughts on the different team selections so far? Anyone making the trip to Germany? Anyone decided to throw their TV into the closest lake and cancel any cable subscriptions? Or re-mortgage their house to pay for their trip?

It is the biggest sporting event in the world, watched by billions. Surely there must be a few fans here?!

to watch a load of women run around a pitch using their acting skills to get free kicks. i think not...

My tip for a winner is Holland. Possibly Brazil (assuming they make it through).

Unfortunately I don't have much hope for England doing well. Absence of Rooney is a massive massive loss.

I've never seen this new Theo kid kick a ball - interesting choice. Apparently he's very quick, but lack of experience could be really telling.

I think that Brazil will win...but you never know!

The England team selection has been a little strange. We are taking four strikers, one is injured, one is unfit and another is only 17 and has never played in the top English league (Premiership). The leading English goal scorer in the Premiership has been left out!

Been watching too much European football or just disheartened it is entering the English game?

You have to admit though some of the performances are Oscar winning material.

But that is not football, Owen's goal against Argentina was football, and then the 'hand of God' Maradonna showed us all what can be done with a ball.... or couldn't if you were trying to tackle him.

Could not agree more re the England selection even Sven has said he has only seen Walcott briefly. Good luck to the kid.

Personally I think Portugal will kick England out and Scolari will for once enjoy speaking to the British press.

Agreed, unless this "wonderkid" really is something special. That said "natural gift" isn't really enough in any sport at this kind of level is it - experience is also very important.

I am bit worried it is all hype about Theo Wallcott

In the past some players were hyped up much to much when they were young only to become average to good players (eg. Mark Robins, Lee Sharpe at Manc U)

We will see .....

Didn't Sven already say that Walcott is not the next Pele, or was that someone else? Anyway, he might not even get a game but it is a shocker Rooney might be out and definitely not match fit.

Would you take Rooney?

I should elaborate on my comment on Portugal, I do think they will meet England, and the British Press will be all over Scolari no matter who wins.

I just wish the thing was not in Germany - Thai TV sometimes plays funny adverts in the middle of the games, and on top of that most matches will be in the middle of the night for us.

Anyone got tickets?

Apparently he's extremely quick and can kick a ball really hard. I think that sounds ideal for the English game - "boot it up the park and run at it".

So maybe he was the perfect choice ;)

Hi,

Maybe Theo just has lots of spare jumpers (non-UK: sweaters/pullovers) to use for goalposts...

When I saw him play in December time he was marked out of the game by Gary Doherty ........

Luckily for England Ginger Pele is not going to the World Cup.

Hmmmz we will see.

One would have to ask why Walcott was never chosen to play for Arsenal it is not like they did not have their own problems this season.

Perhaps Sven knows something Arsene does not.

And why did the FA start the whole mess of choosing a replacement in the first place. Couldn't it wait.

Lol! Didn't the long-ball game go out of fashion about ten years ago?

Presently the (UK) bookies favourites to win the World Cup are:

Brazil 3/1
England 8/1
Germany 8/1
Argentina 9/1
Italy 9/1
France 12/1
Spain 14/1
Holland 14/1
Portugal 25/1
Czech Rep 33/1

Further down the scale you can get:

USA 100/1
Togo 500/1
Costa Rica 500/1
Angola 750/1
Saudi 1,000/1
Trinidad & Tobago 1,500/1
