Heh.. slept right through it. Turned out to be a complete non-event anyway.

It was all over the news last night though. Most people in supposedly threatened areas heard about it from paniced relatives and friends living overseas who phoned or texted them to tell them to evacuate. Seems Civil Defence was a bit behind the eight ball on this one.

- I say 'supposedly threatened' areas because the maps that whoever issued the alert was using were well and truly ... well.. screwy.

Areas that would have been in the line of fire received no notification at all. Areas that did receive the notification were hundreds of miles out of the way, including areas that were a hundred or more miles inland.

With my parents living on the beachfront here in Hawke's Bay, and my brother less than a mile inland on the flats, it doesn't give me a lot of confidence if something DID actually happen.

My copy of <snip> says it was only a 7.9 temblor. :-P
