The machine, until now code-named "Revolution", has been renamed "Wii".

The new name, pronounced "we", has been chosen to show "that the new console is for everyone", according to Nintendo.

However, the games giant is taking the name change slightly more seriously.

"Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii," reads the announcement on the comapny's website.

You just can't make stuff like this up! ;)

Hope Nintendo gets it right this time around. The controller seems like a breath of fresh air. Few companies have made an impact like Nintedo in my life. Spent hours on their 8 and 16-bit machines when I was a kid.
