I don't want to mention the company name, but there is a service to which many people subscribe to that takes their contact list and tries to keep it up-to-date by emailing everyone on it and getting them to confirm and complete their address info.

I hate any (unrequested) email that does not come from a breathing person, so I just delete the offending emails. I don't want to click confirm and I don't want to click Opt-out. I want them to give up on me and go away. Trouble is, it won't give up and it pesters me until I decide the subscriber is an annoying and selfish jerk.

What are your opinions?

I agree, it's like signing someone else up for junk mail. But personally, if I know it's coming from a legitimate site, I'll just opt out.
