Reports are out that McCaffee AV mis-id'd hundreds of legit files as virii. Depending on user settings these files were either quarantined or deleted. Such common programs as Excel quite working.

Hehehe. You would think there would at least be one response to this by now. So, what does that mean? Must not be many McAfee users round' this neck of the woods, eh?

Perhaps we are not seeing any McAffee users post because they are still trying to recover their systems :)

recover their systems

Indeed. From what I read, the response to the end user was to replace missing files from the disk or other backup. Oops. I'm not certain what it would take to restore Excel, but I'm happy that I don't have to find out today!

Come on, this isn't blatant abuse, but do I sense any responsibility for the problems that this is certain to cause? No. Others have been dinged for intruding into PC's.. Sony comes to mind.

I'm poor. I use AVG Free at home.

At work we do use McAfee's SonicWall - no problems here.

Didn't get me.

Having worked in the industry, I don't use AV software.
