I had to laugh when I read this. I am sure there have been some quite frightening movies about something very similar!

From the BBC -

Pentagon scientists are planning to turn sharks into "stealth spies" capable of tracking vessels undetected, a British magazine has reported.

They want to remotely control the sharks by implanting electrodes in their brains, The New Scientist says.

[news.bbc.co.uk...]

Makes you wonder what they will think of next. Have you noticed that nice pigeon that sits on your window sill peering in......

I find this topic both incredibly fascinating, and deeply disturbing. I imagine I'm not the only one who feels this way...

i think it's disgraceful...... evil buggers. cannot say much more about it.

do you think Bush has a Neural implant yet? Wouldn't surprise me if the mad scientists were controlling him too.

I thought they were already doing (or did that) with dolphins during the crazy cold war era of the 1950's and 60's
The history channel shows wierd things they were doing during that time with "trained bees" and carrier pigeons.
Very funny

LOL ... And what happens when a pretty little shark swims by and Brutus decides he wants some of that or if he gets hungry or ...

This is too funny! The shark is one of the oldest (prehistoric) and driven creatures on the planet. They are eating machines. Eating is basically all they do. It will be interesting to see how scientists are able to overcome thousands of years of evolution and the nature of the beast.

Testing their little remote controls on dogfish is one thing ... putting this plan into action with any amount of success with "real" sharks (the big boys who are capable of tracking large ships and keeping up with them) is quite another. They will likely drive the poor beasts crazy or starve them to death.

Just by making this public and putting it out there for "enemies of the state" to read will likely reduce the world's shark population by half in no time at all. I can just see it now ... every major drug runner and all the navies of the world hurling depth charges overboard everytime they see a shark thinking "Big Brother" is following us!

Good one George ... yup ... that's one fine plan ya got there! Yeesh! :(
