Satire, on Facebook news feed now requires a warning, according the the latest news i've read. It seems that people are reading the satirical news and thinking it's real news.
Now there should be no confusion!
LOL

"We are running a small test which shows the text '[Satire]' in front of links to satirical articles in the related articles unit in News Feed," a Facebook spokesman said in a statement.

"This is because we received feedback that people wanted a clearer way to distinguish satirical articles from others in these units."Facebook Testing Satire Labels In News Feed To Avoid Confusion With Real Stories [bbc.co.uk]

Is it possible to lower the bar much more without annoying the average adult? The Onion is very good but there are always some obvious giveaways just in case someone never heard of the Onion and didn't realize it is tongue in cheek. Seriously I would think that is a very tiny portion of the population, but then, those are the folks the links are shared with.

My experience:
a) People are generally stupid/gullible, and
b) If it's on the internet, it must be true. At least that is what a lot of people believe.

And no, I am not being sarcastic.

I want to cry.

Surely one of the most important aspects of satire is that it is not openly flagged at the outset?

The Greeks got this. The Romans got this. The Elizabethans got this.

Is our civilisation, built on their shoulders, so colossally stupid?

For the sake of balance, it should be pointed out that decade between 1649-1660 when England was a revolutionary republic under the Puritanical dictatorship of Oliver Cromwell, theatre was outlawed and so, arguably, the Roundheads, win the prize for stupidest civilisation ever. But it's beginning to look like we come in second.
