Facebook Launches More Real-Time Trending Conversation Tools

Facebook's latest announcement looks like its trying to get people to stay on the site all the time. Why log in to twitter or any other service when you can get trending topics on Facebook?

If there is something interesting going on, people are talking about it on Facebook. From favorite television shows to sporting events to the latest news; the conversations are happening on Facebook. Facebook Launches More Real-Time Trending Conversation Tools [newsroom.fb.com]

Starting today, selected news organizations can begin to integrate Facebook conversations into their broadcasts or coverage by displaying public posts of real-time activity about any given topic. For example, CNN’s New Day can now easily incorporate what people on Facebook have to say about the latest, breaking news event during their show.

Partners can also use these tools to show the number of Facebook posts that mention a specific word over a period of time, including a demographic breakdown for the people talking about that topic.

Roll out is starting with a small group of media partners including Buzzfeed, CNN, NBC’s Today Show, BSkyB, and Slate.

Today we’re launching two new tools: the Keyword Insights API and the Public Feed API.

Probably because a mass of FB users are losing interest in the site.
I know 40% or more of the people I know frequent FB a lot less.

FB will probably (IMO only) one day go the same way what was that site called my space. :)

I have to agree with your opinion, bwnbwn - I have used it to keep up with family and with others in a related industry, but it is getting too degrading, too opportunistic and abusive to continue as it has. People need to be real sheep to keep on trying to navigate the obstacles in everything, particularly privacy issues.

I have begun removing all images I shared there although they claim the rights to all my profile and cover photos in perpetuity. If I find I need to contact someone in there, I can always open an anonymous profile with clipart photos and made up profile, they don't care. That's how solid the info they are selling is.

I would say from the lack of interest in a front page listing on WebmasterWorld says enough of the lack of interest on this announcement from FB.
