European Google Traffic

American vs European sites - traffic drop

Hi there,

I'd like to extend a question regarding search engine results on American sites vs European sites. Does anyone have any comments regarding the recent disaster drop in google traffic and its effect on European sites? Have you experienced the same drop in European traffic or have you been spared? Any input on the subject is welcome...

Hmm, I'm not sure I get what you mean? I'm not seeing any disaster drop..?
On the sites we monitor, the traffic is as usual.

I mostly manage sites for the American market and their traffic has seen a great reduction in Google these past months. I assume that you monitor European sites? If so, I'm glad to hear that they haven't been affected...

Mostly European sites, yes.

However if a penalty or filter is kicking in the US, it might affect the serps later on in Europe in general or in smaller languages. So seeing what is happening in the US serps, might give us an idea of what to expect in Europe ;)

the big 22-23 Sept drop in G traffic has affected European sites - or at least one - mine!

Interesting. What language(s) is your site in? How did it affect your rankings/traffic?

Interesting Otahu... If that means that Google have gotten round to applying the same filter it uses on English to some European languages but not others, it would be interesting to know which European languages have been affected so far...

one of my sites is in 3 languages - french, german + englsh. Over the last few weeks the french + german stats have gone up, where as the english pages have gone down.

The site is hosted in Switzerland.

MickyJim, you kind of answered your question yourself I think. Google is playing around with geolocation quite a bit in the last weeks and I wouldn`t be too surprised if that`s a reason. French and german might have the normal "bonus" in switzerland as people speak 3 languages there.
