Metasearch.dk - TV ads in DK?

What's the deal here?

So what's the deal there?

I'm a very lazy immigrant in Denmark and know nothing of them.

How can any SE afford to be advertising on the TV over here? - Not that it's particularly expensive but it just doesn't make sense to me...?

I remember TV spots in Germany in the past for Lycos, Fireball and even for Abacho. Because Lycos and Fireball are part of Lycos Europe which is a part of Bertelsmann which again holds shares in several TV stations it was not very surprising to see those ads.

Abacho is owned by an independent company, which was lucky to go public before the bubble bursted. So they had a lot of money.

And don't overestimate the costs for TV spots. The average CPM for german TV is about 10 Euro. If you choose a programm with e.g. 100.000 visitors, you just pay 1000 Euro. This is even possible for a small company. (Of couse I am not convinced that TV ads are the best way to promote a search engine ...)

Well, this is Danish. It's a little different.

SE's have all advertised at one point or another (in the PAST) on TV whether they're owned by Bertelsmann or are independent.

My point is that in Denmark, it's odd. And I'd like to know what people know about this specific situation.

Cheers

Why do you think this is odd?

Of course you will earn less money from a danish engine compared to what you can expect from a german engine. But the smaller the possible audience is the cheaper you can reach a big share of it. In other words: It's cheaper to address all danish people than to address all germans.

Metasearch.dk? Never heard of them?
Where (channel) have you seen them advertising Nick?

Ahhh....

Discovery. I didn't see it, Ivana (my wife) did...

That casts a somewhat different light on it I guess?

Discovery? There is a banner on metacrawler.dk for the Discovery online shop. Perhaps it's a simple barter deal: I show your banner, you broadcast my ad.

Hi Metadk, welcome to WebmasterWorld :)

Thanks for joining us - nice commercial btw.

Can you tell us a little about your search engine?

Where/how do compile your results?
Is it purely meta results?
What effect has a submission in the serps?

Nice to see another player stepping up to the plate. Good luck!

A little investigation reveals pure findwhat results. So much for a new search engine..
