The way I see optimising and Yahoo in Europe ( at least where Y does paid inclusion):
The sites which are in the directory should easily come up on top of Google, and not just on two or three phrases but on loads of searches. Plus I expect Yahoo search getting more users, or users doing more searches at Yahoo.
I'd loved Yahoo to have taken Fast or someone on board (eggs/basket), but as it is I think I'm going to benefit.

Perhaps it's time to actually think about selling to Europeans, then...hm. This will work very well.

Espotting results will still be shown on top.

That means that we will not see .com and .net on Yahoo Deutchland and others only .de, that must hurt business for those who have visits from around the world, but only got a .com domain.

Zeus, the results displayed at Yahoo.de are identical to those from Google.de, set to pages in German language.
TLDs are not involved at that point.
The funny thing is of course that Google started messing with their way of determining origin of pages. Since a couple of months the error ratio has increased dramatically. You'll find in any given search lots of pages in different languages - searches restricted to german language, even in the top spots.

Apart from that, yes, only in advanced search modus Yahoo users are given the option to search in all or in other languages.

Well just checked my logs and no noticeable difference albeit 1 day. The results on yahoo.de were terrible for my area and now we are #1 ( rightly so ;) )

All other languages looking good too but I am not really sure that this will have a great impact as the results have been so bad for so long that most people have already jumped ship to google anyway.

Yahoo UK currently defaulting to Google SERPS - bad news for some though, all .coms filtered out for UK only results.

- Mainly .it dominions
- pages in italian language of other TLDs (.com, .org etc.)

I am really hoping that this is just an experiment which will be reversed ;) . Otherwise all the money for express inclusions would go waste .. and one of my sites was really ranking well in yahoo directory results.

There now appears to be no reason to pay for a Yahoo listing - strange business model if you ask me! Still, it will save me a grand or two per month.
