what about Euroseek? Shouldn't we add them too? They have a native language interface to nearly all european languages. Their directory is ordered by language and by country. So they have a directory for a lot of the european countries. Maybe they should be listed in all countries?
regards,
Ulli
Overworked my brain on this one. Big headache. The sepidered index is the same for all countries. The catalogue is ODP (I think). Front handles more languages than any other. Put them into Sweden or into all countries or into special category - Pan European Engines (there is one or two more). If all countries, I would have to do the same for Google and I think one or two more with one index and multiple interfaces.
It is a very good question, Wisser. Too good. Now I got an headache again. We'll have to think carefully about this.
on the IMS I spoke to the guy from Euroseek and he told me that they get 10% of their hits from Germany and an increasing number from Poland.
I believe Euroseek and webindex must be treated the same. Beside that webindex is just using ODP data.
regards,
Ulli
I agree.
But I am more inclined to take webindex away from all places except their homeland (which?), than I am to add Euroseek in 37 countries. It was when I proofread all the prepared files and saw that I had webindex everywhere, that I got the headache.
maybe we should open a new thread with multi-country engines?
Please add bellnet [bellnet.de ] and make Suchmaschine(.com) as "frontend for bellnet". Locale language required: Yes locale domain required: No

Ulli

[fireball.de...] is also a German SE. Not in the list because it gets its results from Altavista???
Anyhow I have emailed them about inclusion of a site yesterday: will see what happens.
I hope you all are doing well this morning. (No headaches? :)
I've got a couple of quick questions:
You indicated that Web.de get's extra results from AltaVista. How come on a search for "cgi programming tips" (with the quotes), there is a FAST logo at the top?
How can I submit a site for inclusion on Web.de?
Thank you all in advance,
Benjamin Grosse
Web.de switched from Altavista to Fast on Feb 19th, which oLeon posted in the Fast forum on March 6 [webmasterworld.com]. But the info was not used to update the overview of German directories until today. It is now done.
Web.de's directory add url instruction page is here [dir.web.de] and Fast's i here [alltheweb.com]. However, I think that good tactics might be to let Fast find you via the Web.de human edited directory. Perhaps our German members can add some wisdom to this. If you can't read German, try to surf Web.de with the help of Altavista's Babelfish translator.
What's the scoop on suche.freenet.de? Just started to get some really heavy referrals from them. Who's their results supplier?
I'm getting a lot of good hits from english based keywords
Edit: Just found out it's Inktomi giving their results. But anything more about them?
Not to get off topic too much but I think this is important since Inktomi does populate a few German search engines....
It's a real shame game with Inktomi. You don't see much results from them for months and then WHAM! you are listed really well in one of their partners 14 months after you modified and submitted the page/site. There is really bad wave effect with Inktomi. You list well in Hotbot then MSN then AOL then a search engine like this one. Just goes to show how much fresh info you can get from Inktomi eh?
But one good thing I noticed, coincidence or not, there are a lot of .nu domains listed including some of mine. So they don't seem to discriminate at all on freenet.de.
Back to the subject I guess Freenet.de isn't much of a benefit to anyone unless their Inktomi database pops you up on the list.
I have no entry for Freenet in the German directories overview above and I guess there should be one, showing Inktomi as provider of secondary results, right? Anything else we should know about Freenet?
Here is the referral line they supply off a user if it will help any:
[suche.freenet.de...]
NFFC
european filter? Iīm no expert on Inktomi results, so you will know better. There are anyhow lots of dot.coms in top ten serps.
I get the impression, that websearch is not exactly what freenet concentrates on. It seems to be just a service they feel they have to offer.

Alan
