Other search engines:
[vianovo.hu...] the engine is powered by Google.
[index.hu...]
a hungarian news portal (the most famous)just searching in hungarian web.

Usally the hungatian SE's are full text indexing. Keywords not counting to much in ranking.
Title and keyword freqvency are more important.

With any kind of informations or question please feel free to contact with me.

Isten hozta, Horasz! I hope you will like WebmasterWorld, and as you can see there is much to read here.

Thank you for the information on www.vianovo.hu and index.hu. I will update the main post with these later today or tomorrow. I looked at vianovo, which seems to be an impressive looking portal where a lot of money has been spent. (Google licenses are not cheap.) I didn't understand a word of course, except that the weather in Budapest is a lot better than here in Stockholm right now.

Would you say that vianovo is the leading search engine in Hungary, or is there one even more important? No one here knows a thing about search engines in your country and you are the only one who can tell us. So I hope you will educate us all about the search engine scene in Magyarorszag.

One more thing: The standing of English in Hungary. Is the language widely understood or is German your first foreign langage. (or Russian, for the older generation.)

Tack rencke,

This forums ar cool..:)
Well Vianvo.hu is a good site but visitors are not going there too much. The most famous SE in hungary is the Altaviszla
(http://www.origo.hu). This is also a portal, owned buy Matav, the biggest Telecom company in Hungary. The alatviszla is kind of like Altavista. Mostly as i said before the hungarians SE's full text indexing Se's. And the is also a directory.
Most important SE's:
1. Altavizsla [origo.hu...]
2. Index.kereso.
[index.hu...]
3. Heureka/Hudir
[heureka.hu...]
4. ViaNovo.hu
[vianovo.hu...]

Index.hu is really important because it's the most visited news site/portal in Hungary.

A little help for the hungarian language:
Search: Keresés or Keres
Add url: Add url or Url hozzáadása

Standing of English:
Good, the younger generation and the internet users 60 % speaking english.
For business use english the first.
German i think is the second.
Nobody speaking russian (exept language crazy pepoles.)

My company working in the SEO field.
I can help SEO colleges
trasnlating from English to Hunagrian and back.

OK Horasz. I have updated the main entry for Hungary with your excellent info. Keep it coming. I have also added your company to the list of local resources.

This might be useful knowledge for you: I had no problem viewing your flash site from the office computer running Win98. But my old homecomputer running Win95 refused to install Flash and asked me to use Windows install instead. Don't know why. Also: you have a typo in the url in your profile.

Could you keep your eyes open for info on Internet usage in your country. My figure is a bit old and big ratings institutes like MMXI and Nielsen Netratings don't publish figures for your coutry yet, only local business journals do that from time to time.

Hello All,

A new (nad really good..:) engine in HUngary:
[goliat.hu...]
The engine setup for the special HUngarian language, so itt will use é and á and other hungarian characters.
Imho it isn't indexing to may pages, yet. It's really fast.

Hello Horasz and welcome back.

Yes, the Goliat engine is fast and the index seems to be of very good size according to my quickie test. It returned 3 times more search replies for the .hu-domain than Google and Fast. Looks as if they have spidered all Hungarian web sites.

Tell me: What are the two options for the search box - "teljes lista" and "opcionalt lista"? My test yielded pages in the .hu domain only, but in several languages. Could you tell us what it says on the add-URL page? Hungarian is one of those languages where I cannot even guess at the contents, so it would be good to know something more about it.

Hi, Rencke

You are quick as usually...:)
Ok. The add url page say, yhey will index you in 1 minute...:) A dream of all seo's...:) The won't index you if your page is redirecting, has frames without content, ot unuderstable cointent, or text with the same background.
With frames they are recommending the 100% framset thingy..:)

Optional Listing (Opcionalis lista) is usefull for complicated search like (mp3+cat stevens..) it will show up like this..

[goliat.hu...]

with the buttom "listazz" it will show the search results for like cat + mp3. So more comlecated search i recommending this.
I didn't tested a lot yet, beacuse i'm trying to get my company in dutc search engines, but iwll testing over the week, and share my expireneces.

hello guys,

I have just discovered this forum 10 minutes ago, and I quickly read everything concerning Hungarian se's. According to my experience, Altavizsla can be considered as an important SE, but it is very slow, it hardly indexes recently, and heavily spammed. Lots of people use the interantional version, Altavista.com, even if the two are not related.

Concerning Heuréka, titles, keywords and descriptions are all relevant. There is one SE which is not mentioned here, called Kapu (www.kapu.hu). It is quickly updated, regularly checked (it means every second day...) Keywords are relevant, but it is mainly the accuracy of content as compared to the category you must choose in order to submit your site.

Another thing: Hungarian SE's usually accept sites in the local language. Concerning the .com or .hu acceptance, I would like to know too.

And in exchange: I would like to know if anyone can provide me with a list of Swedish/ Norwegian /Danish SE's that accept .com and English as site language.

I would be grateful for it.

regards,

Andrea

Isten hozta, Andrea! I and my fellow moderators hope that you will like this place. It is like a "University of Search Engine Optimization and Webmaster Techniques", with an enormous amount to read - at present more than 25.000 posts.

If you have not already done so, please take a moment to view the charter [webmasterworld.com], where you will find information about this forum.

Thank you for your information on AltaVizsla, Heureka and Kapu. I will be updating the main entry for Hungary with it.

As to your question on Swedish, Norwegian and Danish engines, you will find the answers in the respective discussions for those countries (first post in each). Generally, dot-coms and English will not present any difficulties with those few search engines that really matter. The directories will be more restrictive though and usually require either local language or local domain.

Csodak csodaja meg egy magyar SEO....:)
Well rencke i've got some new info.. One of the hungarian commercial TV chanell TV2 started to do a vertical portal. [korridor.hu...]
They licensing Google. It's i really quick (as google usual). There are no opportunites to add url. I think so if someone wanna add a site , need to use the default google.com/addurl.html.

Korridor it's getting more important because a lot of new people going there, beacuase of the ad's of TV2.

Also Google licensed for two portal now in Hungary. (vianovo.hu and korridor.hu) So Google becomeing more and more important for the Hungarian market.

Excellent Horasz and welcome back. A very timely find indeed, since tomorrow is the international day of the ongoing Google Week. Why don't you take the honors and make a new post in the Google forum about Google in Hungary tomorrow? Or, if you prefer, you can wait for me. I will post something about Google in Europe some time after lunch tomorrow our time, probably around 14.00 (GMT+1). Which do you prefer?

Hello all again,

Jan, a very intresting thing in Hungary...! We talked about altavizsla (origo.hu). Now the changed the name of the search to Vizsla (it's a path finder dog..:) and it's looks like the results of the engine powered by NorthernLight.
That's very interesting to me, because not to many people know NorthernLight here in Europe and in Hungary. I think they were cheap ebough for Origo to buy it. (Anyway origo owned by MATAV, the biggest hungarian Telecom company, and MATAV owned by DeutscheTelecom..:)

One more thing, www.Vianovo.hu shuting down operation...:(

So this are the news.

Horasz
Ps: accutally i'm out of seo bussines, currently i'm working for an online marketing agency (www.telnetinteractive.com as a techie. Maybe i will work with engines, but not that much.

>looks like the results of the engine powered by NorthernLight.

Yes, they do indeed. But I could not find any reference on the site about NorthernLight technology being used and NL does not have a filter for .hu domains on its main site. So if it is the same, I guess they must have obtained their own license and are running the spidering from their own machine.

Vianovo is still open for business, I notice. Do you know when they are shutting down?

As to AltaVizsla, I wouldn't be surprised if AltaVista has threatened to sue them over trade mark infringment. Vizla is the name of the mighty river that runs through Hungary and Poland I believe, while Alta is Spanish and probably picked to make the name sound like AltaVista.

Good luck with the new job. The things you have learned here at WebmasterWorld should ensure rapid promotion for you :)

perhaps somebody can help me with a couple of questions

I'm getting turned down when I try to submit the Hungarian version of our site to Linkgyár by the decency software...which given the nature of our site is quite extraordinary...it seems to relate to the character string "ondo" in the word "gondolatok" and variants of it...any ideas of how best to get around this?

also I can't find a link to submit the URL to Viszla

I'm finding Hungarian to be one of the most difficult languages for SE submission...I suppose because it's one of the most removed European languages from English...it does look quite beautiful though :)

bzsolt

Hi All!
"Vizsla" is the name of a Hungarian dog. The real address of the SE is: [altavizsla.hu...]
(So use this instead of origo.hu so you watch less ads and so give less money to this mammut company. I guess MATAV agreed with Altavista otherwise they have already had some trouble. They are the biggest here so they can't afford having a suit. I mean because of their image.)
Next time I'll try to provide more useful infos. :)

Hello bzsolt - welcome to WmW
Thanks for your input. Problem is I couldn´t get to www.altavizsla.hu - page just wouldn´t load. Did I get you right: altaviszla is the same engine as origo.hu, without the surrounding portal? Different companies?
Also do you know how traffic is distributed among the Hungarian engines?
Thank you!

Hello,

here's the submission URL to altavizsla, if anyone's still interested.

[vizsla.origo.hu...]

This is for the SE part. Altavizsla calls this "regisztracio", so I hope it's not too difficult for you.

For the directory db, you should find the most suitable category and then submit it. Here the link leading to the submission page is called "regisztralas ebbe a kategoriaba".

Hi adrea - Welcome to European Search Engines @ WMW :)

Nice info on Altavizsla. I went there just to find the NorthernLight logo - can you verify that their crawling search engine is NL?

andrea

12:43 pm on Dec 6, 2001 (gmt 0)

10+ Year Member

The Vizsla results are provided by two different db's:

- if you choose the option "magyar web" [Hungarian network], then it's the internal db, probably composed of sites submitted through the "regisztarcio" form

- if you choose the option "teljes web" [complete network], then you have the results powered by Northern Light, that you can also find on NL if you choose the "world wide web" source before performing your search.

Cheers

hi,

For submission information of the three biggest SE's of Hungary visit this topic:
[webmasterworld.com...]

[altavizsla.hu...] it's not the correct url for Vizsla.
With Vizsla the most important thing you have to know as andrea said, the se prowide by NorthernLight.
The success with Vizsla is in the Title tag....:)

To submitt into vizsla i think is better and faster if you go directly to NorthernLight.com than sumitt there.

Etic_Jarvis i wrote you an e-mail, but the mail came back, dou you have a normal e-mail address outside of sitcky mail?
