Hi,

The extremely high knowledge of many members of this forum is impressive, but fragmented. Would you agree to particitate in an aggregation project to simplify a European SE promotion stragegy?

Let's assume:
1. Translated sites with own domain.
2. Local registrations in each country.
3. Targeting the top 5 portals/directories for each country, based on the national profiles provided by WMW forum. (Ex. Yahoo, MSN, ...)
4. Targeting the top 5 Search Engines for each country

My question is: could we assemble together a table here with an overview of the sources of each of the top national portal/directory, and each national SE? (ex. being in Altavista.com does not make you present in Altavista.nl).

Example:
MSN.co.uk
1. Looksmart.co.uk
2. Overture.co.uk
3. Inktomi
4. ??
5. ??

Yahoo.co.uk
1. Yahoo.co.uk?
2. Yahoo.com
3. Google.co.uk
4. Google.com
5. Overture?

(I am not sure these examples are correct?)

That would help to establish a centralized overview for a European strategy covering free and paid submissions and PPC strategies.

Thanks for considering this complex project!

Hi pvdm - Welcome to WebmasterWorld :)

That is a very good question you bring up here, and I will try to get it on it's way.
However before we try to make the complete European overview, we should note that things change so fast in Europe, that before we could get in done, some findings would probably become incorrect. We've seen it several times lately - Google suddenly takes over the search results at some local engine.

First there is a good number of threads that should give you an idea at least, but as you mention, the knowledge is somewhat fragmented, the quick change in partnerships etc. is what causes that.

So,let's see what we have so far:

EUROPE - An overview by country [webmasterworld.com]

Most important SEs and directories? [webmasterworld.com]

FAST's dance card [webmasterworld.com] - Portals etc. that FAST powers worldwide.

Google's dance card [webmasterworld.com] - Google own sites and portals they power.

Altavista Worldwide [altavista.com]

Inktomi Search OEM Partners [inktomi.com]

European engines and directories that you cannot do without #1 [webmasterworld.com]

Targeting Europe - do I have to pay? [webmasterworld.com]

European Search Engine Beginner [webmasterworld.com]

WebmasterWorld's European SEO strategy primer [webmasterworld.com]

Crosslinking different language version web sites [webmasterworld.com]

This should give you an idea of the European scene so far.

Denmark's playing Uruguay in 15 mins. - gotta see that ;)
