continued from here [webmasterworld.com]

Does Euroseek power its own directory and if so what other engines does it feed that make it worth submitting to?1

The directory is new so we will have to wait and see. It is there own directory. They are working with google so we will see what happens. It is probably better to get in now while they aren't charging and ask questions later.

mtgratedir1 is right. At the present time they are just starting to fill the directory. IMO get in to any decent directory anytime you can for free! :)

There was talk about them being really FAST with the submissions in another post here. I submitted several sites on Saturday and still no word, so I guess they've had a lot of submissions lately.

I recently submitted 3 of my sites. They were added within 5 days including: 2 polite replies saying "Please change your desription to english language and resubmit" and "The site allready exists within the chossen cat" (this one was a accident by eurossek). I made the changes and resubmitted. Added within the said period of 5 (week) days. I think they do a great work - and still for free! Just be 1% as patient as you have to be with yahoo and others.

It did power its own directory. However when it was sold, which was the code, and not the hardware, the affect could have changed this situation, as the Euroseek of past had its own partners and advertisers portfolio which was not sold with the code.

From what i can see on the directory it looks like they are rebuilding the listings, rather than taking an dump of the ODP, hence this would suggest, that they are utilising their own crawl technologies, for future indexes, though i am not certain.

Is it possible to add a site to more than one category, if it's appropriate?

Have submitted to 14 categories, 5 accepted, 4 rejected and the rest still pending.

Received a reply each time and always used my primary email.

Euroseek - I just spent a bunch of time trying to add a listing to the Euroseek Directory and ultimately had no luck, which was very frustrating. The submission process raised a bunch of questions too. Here are some comments that I hope are helpful... and some questions too.

You should know that the links on the left hand side of the category pages are reversed... the "Add Listing" link connects to the "Suggest Category" page, and the "Suggest Category" link connects to the "Add Listing" page. I tried this in several other categories too. It's a global problem on your category pages.

I navigated to the closest category I could find to what I wanted. It was a United States > California category. There were no city categories for the states. The California category was empty. After I went through the whole submission process, I got a message saying that the category, which I was submitting from, does not exist. Trying again produced the same result.

While I was submitting, I had a lot of questions that should have been answered on the site, but weren't....

You don't really provide any editorial guidelines, so it's hard to tell what's allowed in titles, descriptions, etc, aside from character and word count.

Your "keyword" field in particular is very confusing for someone who has a search optmizing background. Your keywords instructions tell us to "avoid repeating words found in the title and description."

Usually, though, in an optimized directory description (as most people on this board will submit), we would make sure that our keywords would already be included in the title and description. Should we then repeat them anyway in the keyword field you provide, or should we leave this field empty?

I agree strongly with previous posts in Part 1 of this topic suggesting that you include a comments field in both your "Suggest Category" and "Add Listing" forms. This field is very necessary. At this stage in your directory, you need all the help you can get, in context, and you're not getting it with the present setup.

You also have no feedback or suggestion form on the site.

Please let me know what the category submission problem is, so I can try again. Thanks...

Hi,

We rebuilt the directory today. There are a few bugs to be squashed. As far as the keywords, we will be rewording this section of the form so it is more clear. You may put keywords that are in your title and description. Sites may be listed in more than one category. Especially sites that can be in both a regional category and a general category.

Thanks

Thanks Euroseek.

Did notice an hour ago that many sub-categories still had "add listing" and "suggest new category" buttons backwards and not working.

Have just received emails from Euroseek saying the two sites I submitted have been accepted, this sure saves a lot of worrying and checking every day to see if your sites are indexed. Now I just have to wait for them to update their directory. :-)

How exactly are Euroseek going to work this directory? Will the directory results appear before the Google results.

I know Euroseeks directory is relatively new but... I just tried seaching the directory with no results - I was redirected to Euroseeks home page. Is anybody else experiencing this?

There doesn't appear to be any information on the site about itself - or is there?

I also had that problem, and it happened when I tried to suggest a link in a category...Assuming it's a bug that'll be worked out soon.
