Yahoo shuts down auctions sites in Europe

In Wall Street Journal Yahoo Europe CEO Opzoomer anounces auction sites in UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain will be closed down in 6 weeks time.
In Scandinavia, Denmark, Sweden and Norway Yahoo auctions will stay online.

Users of Yahoo's auctions will get sent to Ebay instead - a deal which is somewhat ironic, remembering Yahoo's attempt some time ago to buy Ebay.

Clearly Yahoo had ruined this part of their business when introducing hefty fees, consequently losing 80% of their users.

More irony: This cnet story [news.com.com] details on the deal between Yahoo and Ebay. It appears to be a multiyear agreement under which Yahoo will promote eBay's sites via banner ads and text links.
So while Yahoo tries everything to break free from the dependancy on ads - here they go again with banners...
