Bad times for the Italian portal Virgilio (the most important Italian directory):

Matrix, the company managing Virgilio is going to fire 65 % of the personnel (about 100 people).

The personnel is going to organize the first strike "on-line".

Virgilio is now reviewing and adding sites to their directory within 15 days. I just had one of mine (Australian site with Italian translation) reviewed and added in exactly 15 days.

Some additional info on IlTrovatore and CVZ - they both accept non .it sites as long as there is Italian content.
It takes about 1 week to be added to CVZ (need to register first). For IlTrovatore, sites are added pretty much immediately. I wonder if IlTrovatore's 'Copia in archivio' is related to Google's cache somehow - the resemblance is quite striking..

Hey Glyn - right, another one for Google.

Google comes up for search in Italy and worldwide, with the third option being search in their directory.
Nice thing is default option apparently is on worldwide search.

Virgilio - strikes, new inclusion policy - what's happening over there?
It appears they have gone the pay for inclusion route, right?
You have to pay 199 € for inclusion, and e-commerce sites are even more expensive?

You can still add a URL for free, but you have not a guarantee.

Paying 199 Euro PER YEAR you have several options; I would suggest you the "Virgilio presenza Siti aziendali" (company site) that guarantees you:

- To be placed in the directory in not more than 5 working days (if you submit on Friday you can still wait 7 days..)

- You can change URL and/or company information details

- You can suggest title, description and 10 keywords (not more than three times per year): you can SUGGEST but editors have tha last word!

- You have NO GUARANTEE on your ranking.

If you search on Virgilio for a one-generic-keyword, like Hotel, the first listing is.

So we have a directory submission fee at virgilio. How about submitting non Italian sites - that is, sites relating to Italian matters but in a foreign language?

Most interesting I found the Arianna PFI service. The offer to be found at the link you gave [arianna.iol.it...]
looks quite familiar - is that FAST PartnerSite in Arianna packaging?

I think that you can submit non italian site related to Italy.

Try a search for "Toskana".

There are sites that have an Italian description but that have no Italian pages at all.

With reference to Arianna, they use the Fast technology for International searches, but they have their technology for searches related to Italian site. You can use the "Arianna Quick Addurl" only for pages in Italian!
