Lycos France lays off nearly half their workforce

The restructuring of Lycos Europe goes on - and the french divison gets hit hard. 71 of 162 people get laid off, according to Journaldunet [journaldunet.com]

In France Lycos had bought and tried to merge Multimania and the webmail operator Caramail. The integration obviously didn't work too well.

It's hard to believe this will not have negative effects on Lycos services, as content delivery, directory maintanance and updating, perhaps even webmail.
It's possible it will effect even mail services in other countries, as Caramail serves for example german webmailer Firemail also.

Grim looking considering Lycos Network is the top 2 most visited site on home in France according to Nielsen. We're talking +3 mio uniques.

You're probably right that it will reflect their services. Cutting the work force by 40% will hurt any company.
