Where do they get their indexes?

Hi all.

The thing is that I am getting a huge amount of referals from Italy. About 60% of all referals come from Italy, about 30% from Iceland and rest from the big ones.

Sites I am getting referals from are
[google.it...]
[virgilio.it...]
[arianna.it...]

Not that I´m complaining, its just that what indexes are they using? their own?

I´m getting almost none referals from the big ones such as google, AV, etc. (cant get indexed even in some)

Then I check my logs and see a whole truckload of referals from gooogle.it ??

I am very curious to say the least.

Olaf, me thinks you have a Google problem. Those italian sites display Google results, so probably this is in fact Google traffic.
Now, why don't you get traffic from other Google sites? Italy is one of the largest european online communities - but Google.com should still bring in more traffic, especially for non italian sites ;)
Any chance Google thinks your .is site is really a .it site....?

Have you tried to contact Google help?

Hi Olaf.

-Google.it has the same db as Google.com.

-Virgilio.it is a directory and uses google for the web results.

-Videobank.it is the web site of an ISP and they do not offer a search box (they give links for searching in google.it, altavista.it...)

-as goldrake75 said, Arianna has its own db.

Is your website of a special interest for the Italian audience?

Ciao
Miriam

Hi all,

Thanks for the information.

The statistics have definitely changed since I originally posted this topic (3 months ago)
Google has included me into its main database and I am now getting the most referrals from Google(.com, .de, it,.nl, etc...)

Italy is still one my biggest referral countries, but other countries that have interest in my hoppy (pedigree information ;) have joined in by force.

I did allot of tweaking to my pages to make them more kosher to the search engines and it has without a doubt helped. Thanks to all the tips I have found on webmasterworld.
