I hate it - I want to decide where I go!

For some reason too, when trying to track HotBot referrals, I invariably end up with HotBot's Dutch home page. Afrikaans, related to Dutch and one of the most vibrant and colorful African tongues (especially around Cape Town), is very much a minority home language at the southern tip. The only country where most of the population uses Afrikaans as the lingua franca, is Namibia.
Apparently Africa, the last of the world's great unexplored spaces, tends to be lumped with Europe and the Middle East by governments, multinationals, and other big spenders when divvying up the globe into manageable trade zones, potential sweatshops, or bombing targets.
Hence (and luckily, I guess) our loose affiliation with the Netherlands.
Search engine logic? It's got me beat :).
they are now showing 5 ads/goto [at least] listings first, 3 previous. Serp's look a mess.
Looks like they are mixing in a few more pop-ups toofrom http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum1/813.htm [webmasterworld.com]
Altavista needs to make sure the paid listings and banner/pop-ups get displayed. They must diversify their worldwide audience as much as possible just in order to diversify their ad revenue. German ads and german Overture listings for german audience. It's as simple as that.
