After UK and Germany [webmasterworld.com] France is the third European country espotting enters. The combination of Lycos/Bertelsmann, Fast and Espotting starts to really dominate the European websearch.
Overture, which for continental Europe only has AV.de, adds to the trend to PPC in Europe.
On some searches I got this error message:
Technical Information (for support personnel)
Error Type:
msxml3.dll (0x80004005)
The stylesheet does not contain a document element. The stylesheet may be empty, or it may not be a well-formed XML document.
/search/results.asp, line 81
They thought we where pretty fast to respond to this new service.
Well what can I say? Found it first on WMW! :)
wow, that's really wierd. And not at all to their advantage - there are a high percentage of sites here in France that are .com
Maybe this is a temporary step in sorting out French sites?
Several French SE limited their results to .fr way back when they started; but they soon widened their results to include .com .org and .net
About espotting.fr: Perhaps it´s just a temporary thing. They are filtering ink db, and have perhaps in a first step just filtered for TLD, with language filtering coming second.
Exactly.

That's what I meant by maybe a temporary step - they can't seriously sell results if they sort solely on TLD.
As you certainly will know the European PPC scene has gained the strongest hold in GB. Following are Germany and France. In the thread on German Searchengines [webmasterworld.com] you´ll find some useful info on smaller engines, like Qualigo and Cyfind.
The bigger players are however Espotting, as discussed here, and Overture, just entering the german market [webmasterworld.com].
We had a thread dedicated to the Euro Pay-Scene [webmasterworld.com], but due to the rapid changes a revisit might be useful, and will by any chance be undertaken soon.
