As reported months ago [webmasterworld.com] PPC results from espotting are coming to France.
Espotting.fr/ [espotting.fr] says listings will be displayed on lycos.fr, hotbot and netscape.
Lycos.fr is according to jupitermmxi figures [fr.jupitermmxi.com] #2 in France with 3145 Mill. visits and 36,7% reach.

After UK and Germany [webmasterworld.com] France is the third European country espotting enters. The combination of Lycos/Bertelsmann, Fast and Espotting starts to really dominate the European websearch.
Overture, which for continental Europe only has AV.de, adds to the trend to PPC in Europe.

I tried some searches and it seems that it is based to Inktomi. You should have a .fr dominion.

On some searches I got this error message:

Technical Information (for support personnel)

Error Type:
msxml3.dll (0x80004005)
The stylesheet does not contain a document element. The stylesheet may be empty, or it may not be a well-formed XML document.
/search/results.asp, line 81

I tried searching for the Espotting listings at Lycos.fr, Hotbot.fr and Netscape.fr but couldn't find them anywhere.
The deal must not be up and running yet?
Interesting to see how big a reach Espotting will get in France.

< it seems that it is based to Inktomi.>

Yes, it sez so on the site.

< You should have a .fr dominion >

Why do you say that? I don't know of an SE that "discriminate" at this point between .fr and .com or whatever.

<Why do you say that? <

I tried some searches and browsed three- four pages: only .fr dominions!

My searches were based on "keywords" that I know how they rank on Inktomi based engines: they are on a .com dominio.

No-show on espotting.fr

One of my french speaking colleagues has just been on the phone with Espotting.fr.
They claim they will start showing their results on the partner sites on December 1.
You can see how it works by checking Espotting's UK site and partners.

They thought we where pretty fast to respond to this new service.
Well what can I say? Found it first on WMW! :)

wow, that's really wierd. And not at all to their advantage - there are a high percentage of sites here in France that are .com

Maybe this is a temporary step in sorting out French sites?

Several French SE limited their results to .fr way back when they started; but they soon widened their results to include .com .org and .net

Has anyone gotten any *real* results from Pay per placement or per click French SE or directories? Apart from google (and even there), I haven't found any sound investments yet; nothing that compares with goto/overture or English google.com.

I guess you´re referring to the Google adwords programm - you tried it but had no success with that?

About espotting.fr: Perhaps it´s just a temporary thing. They are filtering ink db, and have perhaps in a first step just filtered for TLD, with language filtering coming second.

Exactly.

That's what I meant by maybe a temporary step - they can't seriously sell results if they sort solely on TLD.

Hi,

Does anyone know where I'd get a list of PPC search engines in France and Germany, or Europe in general? Or even where I might go to look for this info?

Thanks,

charliek

Hello charliek
And welcome to WebmasterWorld

As you certainly will know the European PPC scene has gained the strongest hold in GB. Following are Germany and France. In the thread on German Searchengines [webmasterworld.com] you´ll find some useful info on smaller engines, like Qualigo and Cyfind.
The bigger players are however Espotting, as discussed here, and Overture, just entering the german market [webmasterworld.com].
We had a thread dedicated to the Euro Pay-Scene [webmasterworld.com], but due to the rapid changes a revisit might be useful, and will by any chance be undertaken soon.

As far as I know, none of the French SE have effective PPC systems up yet. Several of the important ones have them in beta or planning stages, and a couple of the smaller or specific ones have genuine programs going, but nothing is really up (yet).
