France gov to collect all french web pages

I dunno if it was mentioned anywhere.

The french government has decided that every french page that is published on the net must be registered with BNF/INA (french national library). They will also be launching a search engine for all french web pages.

They have obviously not thought about the problems with dynamic pages. Still, it will be interesting to follow the development of the search engine.

The Royal Library in Stockholm [kb.se](6 languages provided )has been doing the same thing for some time. By old law, they have to archive one copy of absolutely everything printed in Sweden and with the advent of digital media, it was logical for them to archive one copy of every single web page they can lay their hands on. They are doing their own spidering and have 9 million Swedish pages in their searchable database. I have heard that the US Library of Congress is doing it too.
