Infoseek can now also be reached as [webseek.de...] , and not only [infoseek.de...] .Its crawler, which ofc honors robot exclusion and meta tags, is now called Infoseek Marvin/1.0 (thats what they say in their doc)

official ua: marvin/infoseek (marvin-team@webseek.de)
still crawls from .sda.t-online.de

Strangely enough, Northernlight also uses a robot called marvin.

Ok, thats the news for now

skirril
the company behind infoseek is called webseek. AFAIK this is not new.
Infoseekīs spider goes by the name marvin. There are other IS spiders, like infoseek sidewinder.
Maybe Iīm missing out on something here, but I donīt see the news?

Just starting to see Marvin come by to pick up some pages.

Went for robots.txt first. Then did a HEAD on one page before returning a split-second later to do a full grab on that same page.

marvin/infoseek (marvin-team@webseek.de)/1.0

For a minute I thought an old friend was "revived" with some visits today:
7/26/01, 14:31 -- 212.185.44.15 -- marvin/infoseek (marvin-team@webseek.de)/1.0 -- Infoseek -- [snipped]

Very very interesting. The German database seems to be particularly strict about exclusion of non-German sites despite one or two English versions appearing. The "englischsprachigen" database I think is actually very relevant.

This needs a bit more investigation - I never knew!

Interesting indeed. As you will know (or else can read in the german thread)IS has long been dormant. It then was revived. In one rush new pages and sites got indexed. After that a lot of german sites trying to get in werenīt spidered. In the last weeks though marvin has been very active.
Relevancy in general seems okay to me. DB is much smaller, 10% perhaps, than Google or Fast.
Iīm wondering though, how many users choose from the dropdown menu search in "englischsprachigen web".
Does anybody from outside germany have traffic from IS?
