Forum Moderators: open
As to positioning software, I wouldn't recommend anything but a manual job. Web Position is the market leader, but there is a lot of concern that the use of the Reporter module will get you banned from Google. There is one module, that does doorway pages for you, but I doubt if it will help you much. Having said that, I should say that WebPosition's help files are of outstanding quality and their Analyzer is very very useful in order to understand what this is all about.
So for a beginner, I recommend WebPosition as a teaching tool. To find out about rankings, you should use some other tool and my recommendation there is TopDog, because of the numerous European engines and directories which they support.
If you intend to optimize in any other language than English, you will probably go a long way just using good SEO practise. I have linked to some useful articles on that in the forum charter - a link to the charter is top left on the European forum main page.

I use both WPG & TopDog and find the page critic a good tool, but stay well clear of the Page Generator if your starting to consider doorways as an option for marketing.
Topdog, I've only recently started using but is a very useful tool for reporting and so far has no problems with Google search's where WPG is blocked now. The list of SE's with TopDog is considerably more & has 10 italian specific search engines in it's list
My only criticism with TopDog is you will need quite a powerful machine to run it, if you're looking at running other programs at the same time my P3 was running so slow that I installed the program onto my laptop and use that to access the program

tigger: As of now, you have 5½ hours left to clean up the spelling in your post. We wouldn't want to give Mimmo the wrong idea about the language of Shakespeare, do we? Nor the Americans a chance to gloat. ;)
