Excellent resources, well done all!

So if I read correctly generally:

-local domains will rank higher in Euro Ses?
-inlcuding .ch which doesn't require a country presence to register and will get you into French and German engines?
- what about .com.fr etc?

7. .com8. .com9. .com.com

voila.fr

espace web gratuit

.com

Environnement et nature

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, alanm. I hope you will like our "University of Search Engine Optimization".

Yes. Dot-coms in French work well in French search engines as evidenced by your figures and also observed here [webmasterworld.com] (see under France). There doesn't seem to be any discrimination against them.

The reason for a ch or be-domain would be to give an appearance of local presence in Europe.

In some countries and in certain engines, local domains seem to get better rankings than non-local. But it is hard to state anything categorically. You would have to check each of the country discussions. Under each serch engine there is a line "Things that help ranking" and the lead in text "Local domain". If the information exists, that's where you will find it.
