May I trouble anyone for any tips on whether Europeans outside the UK would generally spell with the USA or UK variant of certain words, such as say 'jewellery' (UK)or 'jewelry' (USA). Thanks again.

In my school days British spelling was the only one tought in Sweden and spelling the American way would give you demerits. Have just interviewed two members of the latest generation, who told me that British spelling is still tought, but were unsure if American spelling gives demerits. The two persons could not agree on the spelling of tomatoes though, nor the pronounciation.
Having said that, I should say that the average mainland European probably sees more tomatos than tomatoes, once out of school.
I would guess that the situation is about the same elsewhere in mainland Europe.
