"Euroseek will discontinue its efforts of building an e-commerce platform and will limit its portal to the search function and certain less personnel intensive services. The search engine was the main reason why visits to Euroseek.com increased by 73 % in the year 2000, and reached 38 million in December"

Hmmmm.... That press release was not carried by the local business papers this morning and I think I can guess why. It has the appearance of a smoke screen. In the last paragraph, we learn that the CEO is leaving (after 8 months!). Before that a rationale is given for a very high evaluation of its e-commerce platform (on a stone dead market). And before that we learn that that broadband is one of their key areas. I am being bombarded by broadband advertising from all quarters, including all of the country's major players. But that Euroseek was a player in this cut throat competetive field is news to me. Methinks this is all about forthcoming massive layoffs and dire financial problems.
