testing paypal payment

hi - we are just putting a paypal option on our site

now i can not send paypal money to myself - so i set up another account.

i verfied it using the 4 digit paypal number on my statement.

however, now they want me to fax my bank statement into them.

1stly, i dont have access to a fax machine.
2ndly, with my other account i never had to fax anything in.
3rdly, i just want to test the (bloody) thing - not do anything else with it.

any ideas?

I am not sure, but from what I recall, you *cannot* have more then 1 paypal account. Also, they have a toll free support number that you can find from help section. They are very good at providing phone support too.

PayPal allows you to have one business and one personal account.

Before I joined WorldPay I messed with PayPal, and, like you've discovered there is no easy way to test your integration.

So I just opened a live log window to my server, sat back, crossed my fingers and watched. Thankfully it worked :)

yeah well at least with world pay - you can change a variable and make a test transaction - it just makes common sense imho.

the simple thing we want to test is the verification page once someone has submitted the money - ie testing the page the user is then directed to.

also what variables are returned when the page is redirected?

You normally supply the URL that a user is directed to after a successful payment. As for the variables, check out the "merchant tools" tab in your PayPal account - they have a lot of developer information there, and that is likely something they discuss in that section.

When I set my paypal transactions up, I created two accounts, one personal, one business. I never 'verified' the personal one, and in fact you probably wouldnt even need to attach credit cards/bank accounts to it. Just send a little money from the business one over to the personal one, and use that. Once you are all finished testing things, just do refunds back and forth so you dont lose the transaction fees. Paypal even recommends this in their documentation.

I assume you want and IPN type of setup where PayPal sends the info to you once the payment has been verified.

There used to be a ton of PayPal IPN testing scripts out there. I think that may have changed since PayPal changed their policy on those scripts after some problems. I suggest putting PayPal IPN test into Google and see what comes up (I have no idea, it’s been several dances since I set mine up). For information on what variables they send back to you, check the documentation within PayPal. They have a detailed list of each and every variable that is sent to your IPN landing page.

I had my account suspended one time because I had a personal account that used to test payments to my site. All it took to get it turned back on was a call to PayPal explaining what I was doing and they turned my account back on.
