Are there actually any 3rd party processors (besides 2checkout) that don't force the buyer to sign up but rather just simply run the credit card?

Yes, most credit card processors will just have the customer fill in the credit card info without going through the paypal like registration.

But since you refer to registration and 2checkout, it leads me to believe you are really talking about 3rd party credit card processors.

These (like paypal and 2checkout.com) let you do on-line credit card processing without needing YOUR OWN merchant accout and dealing with your own shopping cart, SSL certificate and dealing with an authorization gateway.

Another credit card processor almost identical to 2checkout in price structure and functionality is paysystems.com. They are a little more versatile than 2checkout AND they actually have very friendly tech support people on the phone!

If you are ready to deal with hosting your own shopping cart and talk to an authorization gateway, you should have a look at payquake.com as they offer a nice 3 tiered plan where the base level has a slightly higher "discount rate" but no monthly fees and you can change your plan from a control pannel to fit the need of your business (i.e. when you have more sales volume you don't mind paying $20/mo fixed fees in order to get a lower discount rate).

When talking about third party processors, kagi.com may also be worth mentioning. The site lacks all the superficial glitz, but their service is very professional and straightforward. They started as a shareware clearinghouse years ago, and still offer some specialized features (eg. they can generate serial numbers from your code), but they will process payments for pretty much anything you'd recommend your mother to buy.

Well, I've found that most processors that offer "free" setup make the buyer signup like Paypal. However, since my thread title was obvious, I think this one makes up for the "free setup and no monthly fee" by charging higher rates ($1.25 plus 5% minimum per transaction)...No matter...I'lll check it out. Thanks :^)
