Just switched CC processors, should I add a cart?

Anyone with a products site see extra value?

As long as I'm about to re-code for 400 products, I'm wondering if I should take the time to add a shopping cart. I have not used one in the past and have not felt that it was a detriment. It is my belief that customers are very comfortable with them but anyone with thoughts about whether the presence of a shopping cart induces people to buy?

Would appreciate feedback from the group from the webmaster perspective as well as from the customer point of view.

I have one experience with adding a cart to an already functioning site with about 300 products. Adding a cart improved sales by nearly 1000% - that's ten-fold. In this case, the company sells high end decor items. There is nothing in their product mix that can be considered a "need" by any stretch, so it their business is very much based on impulse sales.

Results do depend on your market niche - but a well designed cart is almost expected these days, and no cart can hurt a site's credibility and the customer's confidence.

Once a cart gets set up and rolling, there's almost no added stress in terms of site maintenance.
