Insurance on your inventory

Do you? Don't you? Where do you keep it?

We keep our inventory (about $50,000 worth) in a storage room. We'd like to get insurance to cover it in case of fire, flood from sprinklers, or theft.

Does anyone else have insurance on their inventory? How much is it a year? Who do you use to insure it? Is there any type in particular I should look for?

Thank for any advice you can give.

Can you afford to loose 50K to fire, theft or flood?

If not get insurance!

One thing to look out for is increased cover during your busy time. For instance, your policy covers 50K, but gives cover upto say 75K for a previously agreed period around Christmas/Easter/whenever.

Basic inventory insurance coverage is cheap. I would guess your probably looking at approx $600 US per year. Just call your local insurance broker and ask for a quote. You can also call any of the big insurance companies for a quote.
