.php based cart creates HTML catalog?

Doesnt google frown upon this?

Is this "bad" in googles eyes?

I have an ecommerce store with products...there's an option for me to create an HTML catalog of all my products (if they hit 'add to cart' they go to my script based age). The feature is advertised as "search engine friendly".

I was under the impression that google "didnt like" 'duplicate' pages.

Whats the deal?

Static pages are better than dynamic pages with respect to search engine ranking

[google.com...]

If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few.

You are correct about the duplicate content situation. Creating static pages with a "generate store" button is a very bad way to do things. This method is not search engine friendly and never will be. Your best bet is to find a better solution.

I assume you are talking about x-cart, you will not have a problem.

Search engines have no problems with duplicates on the same site, it will simply promote the strongest page, if you tried to create lots of multiple pages of the same content with different names - say 6 times for example then that would not be a good idea.

But used the way it is meant to be used it is a great feature, if it would hurt your SEO the developers would not have created it - give the developers credit for a little common sense.

cheers.
