Hello,

I was just wondering how everyone handles charging credit cards using CVV when you don't have the inventory in just yet? I’m guessing you will authorize and settle the card only when you receive the inventory.

For example, if customer places an order and you authorize the order using the CVV which gets approved. The authorization expires after 30 days, and let’s says on day 35 the inventory comes in and you need to reauthorize the credit card because your authorization number won’t work because it expired.

But this time you don't have the CVV number because you are not allowed to save this information in a database. And the only reason you were able to use the CVV the first time was when the customer submitted their order from your website and the CVV number was passed on to the payment gateway without being saved.

How does everyone handle this type of situation?

Thank you,

Contact the customer again or charge without the CVV number.

A lot of times the gateway will still allow the transaction. The pre-auth - usually only good for a few days - just basically means the money is not yours (guaranteed).

But if you can charge the card without the CVV, that might be OK. You already have recieved the report the first time hopefully if the CVV matched
