button design research

I recently changed my "Add to Cart" buttons based on a couple threads here.. this one being the best (does your buy button suck?):
[webmasterworld.com...]

Now my designers are complaining about the "look" of the site... that buttons stand out too much and are "more prominent than the products". They want to design buttons that blend with our colors, but I think the buttons should "pop" and not require any hunting.

I know I should do some A/B testing, but in the meantime, does anyone have a link to any articles on this subject?

Thanks for your help,
Dan

Sorry but I don't have the link, but I have a tongue and cheek suggestion.

Place their paychecks in a new location each week rather than on their desk.

Tell them it is an expression of your art.

Seriously,
Forget the testing, let the button stand out [stet].
The last thing you want to do is to have the call to action blend in.

Designers, for the most part, don't understand conversion rates. Let them design, while you take care of business.
