Card Payments in Spain

Advice needed on best approach

Has anyone got any experience of accepting card payments in Spain? Anyone know what Payment Service Providers are operating here? Recommendations?

I have an online business in Spain and have up to now taken payment via bank transfer but would like to be able to accept cards. The only problem is that the banks here seem uncooperative or unknowledgeable (in my experience)

Do I need to get a merchant account with a bank or are there payments service providers that provide this too?

All advice greatly appreciated

I have shared your grief in the past and it's sometime difficult to get the info.

The banks in the 4b group have a payment system set up aptly named Sistema 4b, those banks I believe are

- SANTANDER CENTRAL HISPANO
- POPULAR ESPAÑOL
- ESPAÑOL DE CRÉDITO
- SABADELL
- ZARAGOZANO
- MARCH - PASTOR
- MAPFRE
- GUIPUZCOANO
- VALENCIA
- URQUIJO
- GALLEGO

Failing that you could try one of the payment processors like ogone, worldpay etc.

i use the caixa galicia system.

it works fine, but does not accept all the cards, VISA yes.

That said, 70% of our sales online are contra reembolso.

Thanks OddDog,

What are the rejection rates with contra reembolso - do you get many people who have second thoughts and decide not to buy?

Do you surcharge for credit card and contrarembolso, as compared to bank transfer?

I think it will be easier to integrate your website with a third party processor such as Chronopay, WorldPay or MultiCards, they also have features to have the orderpage translated in Spanish.
