Have come across Email Extractor Software that can pull email addresses from web sites.

Very much aware of the CAN-SPAM ACT and adhere to it.

Question: What are the issues in using this Email Extractor Software (Atomic Email Hunter by Email Marketing Software)?

It sounds like spamming. This is the reason that we try to encode all our email addresses on our site so that we don't get messages that we never opted to get.

No reputable merchant uses unsolicited bulk email marketing. These days most people understand that spam = scam and delete it right away.

Anyone know a good replacement for the old Jimtool email extractor which I've used for years to obtain email addresses from customer orders (not the web).

As far as issues, I am not certain. I have to agree with the others: it sounds like you are spamming.

I thought one of the important parts of the CAN-SPAM ACT was that it made it illegal to harvest e-mail addresses automatically?

Not at all according to how the law is written. It is my understanding that "harvesting" is ok if the individual web site does not prohibit it in its terms of use.

I'm guessing that there is not much chance that the email extractor software actually *checks* the terms of use.

That's correct. You need to check each web site.

Regardless of what the website’s terms of use states... what you are talking about is 100% SPAM! It not only pisses me off when I receive spam from people using these types of tactics, but it even pisses me off more when our legitimate emails that we send to our customers get blocked by spam filters that are trying to prevent crap like this. If you can’t make a go of it using legitimate methods you might want to look into a different profession. I don’t mean to flame you if you are simply unfamiliar with the software and are curious as to if it is considered a legitimate marketing technique... if that’s the case, now you know. Don’t be offended by anything I said. Otherwise, what I’ve said isn’t harsh enough.

Email harvesters are used to pull email addresses off of web sites so they can be spammed. So why would you need a harvester if you're not going to spam people?
