By how much do sales on the net drop after the holidays?

...for small gifts and collectibles...

Hey guys, is it really as bad as people say in January?

Does the traffic just drop or do people just stop buying?

I'm hoping a few of my sites will experience higher sales, from kids with Christmas money. :)

Drop off? I would expect an increase because of all those "after the holiday sales". Not to mention folks getting ready for their mid-winter vacations and those just looking to overcome the mid-winter blues.

What are the "after the holiday sales"?

This is my first year in retail, can you elaborate?

Nearly all of the top retailers here in the US need to dump inventory before their fiscal year ends. So if they don't sell it by Christmas, they usually hold a sale soon after to clear out the shelves. Inventory carried over into the next fiscal year can be a liability to your taxes.

Another reason is that the retailers do reduce prices in short spurts to help stimulate their sales - for the reasons I mentioned earlier - they know there are people getting ready for vacations, others are getting cabin fever, and others need to get an accessory or two to go along with the new computer or digital camera they got for Christmas. It's all about marketing.
