What are the better shopping carts for apparel?

Not liking the one I chose, buyer's remorse.

I'm a little out of touch. If I am starting an internet based clothing store, what shopping carts can compete with some of the big stores?
Since I have a .net programmer on retainer, I was looking at .net solutions. NOPCommerce had the best customer's shopping cart experience, and the back end order management looks very good. As I'm experimenting with adding items with different colors and sizes with inventory I'm disliking it and second guessing it as a choice as I'm unsure employees will be able to enter items, pictures, inventory, etc. I've experienced some odd slowdowns where the website seems to lag on a dedicated server with one other website that is very fast.
There really isn't much selection above a certain price. If I was looking into a internet clothing store, are there better shopping carts?

The product being sold isn't important. The functionality of the "cart" and how you use it IS...

Bear in mind that what works for some might not work for others. In all cases, how that cart interfaces with the site/cms is the most critical consideration of all (that and banks/payment processing, etc.).
