SSL Certificate Warning

Our new web site has its shopping cart secured with a "wild card" SSL Certificate that came with the purchase of the shopping cart. When our customers make a purchase, they receive a warning because the name on the certificate is different from that of the web site. The site is secure but customers are bothered by the warning and are choosing not to make a purchase.

Question: Will there be any issues if we purchase a new/different SSL Certificate from another company and install it on our web site?

Short answer - shouldn't be.

Long answer - it's possible. It depends upon many variables. I suggest you have someone with experience in these matters take a closer look and then have them on hand to resolve any issues that may arise when you make the switch.

Also check to make sure that you are going to [example.com...] and not [example.com....] If I remember right (memory is fading) - the wildcard cert sometimes causes problems on [example.com...]

If you do get your own SSL cert, make sure it is issued to the correct name, i.e. www.example.com. And then you must call it like [example.com....] If you call it [example.com,...] your clients will have the same problems
