I am trying to buy a plugin to a theme. Just to be specific - it is Astra Pro developed by Brainstorm. So this way you can see what I am talking about.

I don't want to give them my credit card and trying to use Paypal. In addition to my email address and the full name the site is asking for password to Paypal. I don't think anyone else before asked me for the password to Paypal. Am I wrong?

Your advise is appreciated in advance

My recollection is that I'd give a website my email. With that the website would redirect me to Paypal's site. And only Paypal would ask me for the password. I haven't used Paypal in a while and could be wrong.

We don't visit 3rd party sites to review your question, but no one needs to look to understand your question.

You are right. Sometimes sites use integration that mimics the appearance of their site but you are at Paypal - any other scenario would tell me to run away. Is the URL PayPal or their site? If you first go to PayPal and log in there and then try to purchase do they still ask for the password rather than just your email?

You don't mention if you are using a desktop computer, a mobile device or a tablet - those experiences may be different, but if it's different than what you have seen in the past, I would avoid it.

It is store.theirdomain.com. They have over 1/2 mil users. One of the most popular plugin for WP. Scary. It's like giving them direct access to my account. What do they do with all those passwords?

I am using my desktop. I don't think I've ever used mobile for Paypal purchases.

Thank you very much for the prompt answer.

if that password request isn't coming from a form on a https://www.paypal.com/ url then i would find another method of payment.

You need to check the full URL in the address bar. If you are not on the PayPal website they have no right or reason to ask for your password. What you need to remember is some companies will use PayPal integration whereby the PayPal website will have some aspects of their branding.

If you have any doubt do not provide your password!

Email the company concerned and ask them to provide an explanation.

Mack.

I am staying away from those "characters" all together.

Thank you for your advise.

When connecting into PayPal through a 3rd party shopping cart API you enter information provided in PayPal pro to identify your company as the merchant product sold etc. This allows PayPal to deposit funds in your account. The information requested from PayPal in this 3rd party checkout system DOES NOT INCLUDE YOUR PAYPAL PASDWORD.

Keep It Simple:

Give passwords ONLY to sites YOU KNOW ... and I don't mean plugin stuff.

Keep impatience and "I want it NOW!" in check. That's how this kind of harvesting continues to work.

KUDOS for taking the pause and asking the question. Wish more would do the same!
