Hello,

I am doing SEO for an e-commerce website that has recently went through a redesigning process. The problem is that the new technology used for the website is generating new types of faceted navigation links that are increasing the number of indexed links in Google. We don't want these links indexed, so we have put a canonical tag on them pointing to the main category URL, however, Google bot is ignoring the tag and still indexes the faceted navigation URL.

What's the best way to remove the faceted navigation links from the index, since Google ignores the canonical tag?

We want all the faceted navigation links to be removed from index, however, we want certain pages (ex.: ?page=2, ?=page=3 etc) to be followed by the Google bot so that it can see all the products in a category.

Any suggestions? Is "URL parameters" in Google Search Console an option, and how will you use it?

Thank you

How long have you been waiting since applying the cannonical tag? G is not always fast.
If you want the pages removed, use no index on the facet pages. Pages will be crawled and links followed.
