It's been a while since I have seen this thread. I know there are reasons to go with a big solution like Magento for a large company or something more like Shopify for medium business, or WooCommerce for small biz.. but I just want to hear from everyone on what platform do you prefer and why?

And if you have an opinion on whether to use Amazon or not, curious your thoughts there.

And do you find that Google "is kinder" to one or the other?

Discuss.

As you already told that it all depends on business to business regarding the selection of the Ecommerce platform. I will prefer that client should always go with the Magento.
Why not, Go with Amazon! Sell your Products, Source to get visitors.
Yes, Google is Kinder, Hard work and Quality Work is require to Get any business website at the top of the Google. Follow all the rules of the Google if wish to Get business website at the top.

Regarding Amazon, personally i feel it is dangerous giving them so much data - eg they get to see exactly what your best selling products are.

And the big fish just keep getting bigger. :)

With the recent rise of government finally waking up to consumer privacy, look for "platforms" that actually abide by existing, current, and can likely handle future changes.

I would not recommend you selling on Amazon. Why? It's quite a serious platform with its own specific terms. Remember, Amazon always stands for the CUSTOMER, and rarely for SELLERS.
Plus, if your industry is of high-competition, you'll hardly get to the top.
I don't say that you can't sell on Amazon. Just think twice before do it.
Speaking of other systems, I prefer:
Shopify, Magento, SAPHybris, SalesForce.
